Parental Dilemma

We spent this past week in short sleeves down in St. George. The kids had a great time playing on the 20 foot high dirt pile next to my parents' place. One evening as we were sitting watching TV together David Enoch says to me, "Look what my new friend gave to me!" He shows me a wad of cash. "Wow! Where did you get that?" I ask. "One of my new friends who I was playing with gave it to me." The next afternoon as we are outside, he excitedly reports, "That boy over there is my new friend who gave me the money." I am relieved to see who it is who has given him the money and we decide that returning the money is the right thing to do. The money is retrieved and a visit is made to the boy and his mom. The mom says to her boy, "You told me you lost that money." Upon prompting David Enoch to give the money back, he begins to bawl, "But he gave it to me." The other mom wrests it from David Enoch's hand says "Thanks" and closes the door. David Enoch continues to wail and I am left wondering if I did the right thing. . . .
